MALAWI: Bishop Chaima Applauds Christians for Building an Outstation

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba, Malawi has applauded local Catholics in the diocese for building a new church, called Christ the King Church, located in Bandawe under the new parish of St. Joseph, Sunuzi.
Speaking during the official opening of the parish Saturday, June 29, Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima who has been at the helm of the Diocese since August 2023, appreciated the big role played by the Christians in the construction of the new church building.
The Prelate also reminded the faithful of how God uses people who avail themselves of resources and talents towards evangelization of the gospel.
“God continues to do the same today when we avail ourselves, our talents, and our resources. That is why today we are celebrating that we are blessing this church that we have all contributed towards its construction,” said Bishop Chaima.
He then advised the congregants to take good care of the church by ensuring that all the facilities are not vandalized and to have vibrant Small Christian Communities (SCCs) and groups, which will help them cement the Catholic faith.
During the construction of the new outstation, the local community of Christ the King Church molded bricks, collected sand, helped draw water, and also collected funds through various fundraising activities that included paper Sundays.
The church project also received a financial boost from friends of the mother parish including the Parish of St. Joseph, Sunuzi, and from various parts of the country.
Before its establishment in 2022, St. Joseph’s Sunuzi Parish was under St. Paul’s Matiya Parish run by religious priests of St. Vincent de Paul.
