UGANDA: Hospital in Uganda’s Kasese Diocese Prepares for First-ever Free Urogynaecological Camp

As most mothers in Kasese District in Western Uganda die silently from urogynecology diseases due to failure to access affordable treatment, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital has organized a free four-day health camp that will commence from 1st to 4th July, at the hospital in Kasese Town.

The Ordinary of Kasese Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale, while addressing believers at St. Immaculate Heart of Mary, described the camp as part of fulfilling Christ’s mission of healing as well as encouraged the community to go for tests in a bid to neutralize complications.

Bishop Kibira highlighted that the camp targets all people especially the less privileged in the region irrespective of religion, tribe, and color, adding that Kasese as a district has an increased rate of urogynecology diseases.

According to the hospital administrator, the upcoming health camp has been organized to manage conditions like urine incontinence due to tears during childbirth, stool incontinence and Fistula and other genital tract-related abnormalities.

“The camp they called “Urogynaecological” regarding the above conditions will be free of charge in treatment of victims, transportation, and meals strictly for patients, whereby the next of kin to patients will provide for themselves” the administrator assured.

The hospital administration, therefore, calls on the public to turn up for this free service, especially those with health conditions to restore good health and save their marriages and lives.

In his report, the Hima Parish head of laity, Mr. Constantine Kisembo required the Bishop to create Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital outreach in Mubuku town council which is under Hima Parish for quick and affordable services.

Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in the Diocese of Kasese was founded four years back during the disastrous floods that hit Kasese District on 8th and 10th May 2020, to serve as a rest place and rescue of patients providing shelter to the Internally Displaced people and patients from Kilembe Mines Hospital that was swept off by the Floods.

The hospital was officially launched and opened in November 2023 by the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who was represented by Hon. Raphael Magyezi the Minister of Local Government and blessed by Bishop Kibira.

The well-performing and ranked Health Facility is fully under the Administration of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese and managed by the Banyatereza Sisters.

The construction of the Hospital was fully funded by the Government of Germany in partnership with “Together.”
