The Catholic prelate of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, has applauded the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) for making strides in academic efforts in the country.
Speaking during a public lecture on a church document entitled “Dignitas Infinita” on Thursday this week, organized by the Faculty of Theology, Bishop Chaima commended the Catholic University of Malawi for the efforts that aim at achieving academic excellence.
“Let me also share this, not only in my personal capacity but also on behalf of my brother bishops. This is something that the University should be doing, and as bishops, we are always happy to see awareness that the university is taking part in such activities,” said the bishop.
Bishop Chaima then urged the Catholic faithful in the country to have an interest in reading and understanding documents that the church publishes for people to read and understand for the growth of their faith.
“In terms of morality, we should listen to what the Church says and not the other way around. For example, a politician is not someone who should be guiding our lives. He can say something that is meaningful to which we can subscribe, but in terms of guidance on something that is valuable and worthy of keeping, the Church should be patronized,” added Bishop Chaima.
The Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Fr. Cosmas Kadzombe, commended the faculty members for their collaboration towards the Public Lecture on Dignitas Infinita by Rev. Fr. Dr. Boniface Kasulo from St. Peters Major Seminary.
Dignitas Infinita is a declaration of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith on Human Dignity that was released on April 8, 2024.
The public lecture discussed the dignity of every human being as indispensable and having some social, economic, and political implications in the contemporary times when it is understood in many and, sometimes, contradictory ways.
