Members of the Catholic Family Movement (CFM) in the Diocese of Zomba organized a health walk on Saturday last week as part of its fundraising initiative for their annual general meeting at diocese level.

Speaking after covering the 8.5 kilometers distance from Sacred Heart-Zomba Cathedral to Holy Trinity-Matawale Parish, Bishop of Zomba Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima urged the members to support one another as they engage in their ministry.

“As a church group, I am encouraging you to work together with other groups, starting with the other family movements that exist in the Church, for we all have one mission: to journey together through the love they share in the family and proclaim to the world God’s kingdom,” said Bishop Chaima.

He further applauded the membership for organizing the health walk that aimed at mobilizing resources for the annual meeting, saying the move complements the efforts of the diocese to build a self-reliant church.

The Christian Family Movement (CFM) is a national movement of small groups of Catholics and their families who meet in one another’s homes or in parish centers to reinforce Christian values and encourage fellow Christian parents through active involvement with others.

CFM’s mission is “to promote Christ-centred marriage and family life; to help individuals and their families to live the Christian faith in everyday life; and to improve society through actions of love, service, education, and example.”

In their meetings, members discuss what they have observed in their families or neighborhoods and then judge what they have observed by the standards of the life and teachings of Jesus.

This year, the annual general meeting at the diocese level will take place in September.
