MALAWI: Zomba Prelate Urges Youths to Desist from Political Violence

As Malawi is scheduled to hold general elections in 2025, the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima, has urged the youth in the country to desist from being involved in political violence.
Speaking during the Vocational Sunday Eucharist celebration at St. Anthony’s Thondwe Parish last Sunday, Bishop Chaima has encouraged the youths to be agents of peace in the country.
“I am urging you that you should not be perpetrators of violence in the name of politics; your role is to participate in the process of elections by registering to vote and making sure you are voting for the leaders who are to develop this country,” said Bishop Chaima.
He also advised the youth to take an active role in protecting Mother Nature through participation in reafforestation activities.
“And the most important thing you need to do is love reading the Word of God, receive sacraments, and get involved in the full life of the church.” Added Bishop Chaima.
He further urged the youths to concentrate on their studies and be ambitious as they build and prepare for the future.
In the Catholic diocese of Zomba, thousands of youths gathered at St. Anthony Parish, where they commemorated Vocation Sunday under the theme “Called to Sow Seeds of Hope and to Build Peace.”
After the Holy Mass, youths from the diocese had presentations on how they could answer their calling in life.
