ETHIOPIA: Catholic Bishops Conference Appoint New Secretary General

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) on Wednesday, March 27, has appointed Rev. Father Asfaw Ketema as new Secretary General. He will officially assume the role in June 2024, succeeding Bishop Lukas who served for six years before his recent appointment as Coadjutor Bishop of the Eparchy of Emdibir.
Father Ketema, a priest from the Vicariate of Nekmete, brings a strong background in theology, development studies, business administration, and management in Dublin, Ireland. Ordained in 1994, his diverse experience includes parish ministry, school administration, and project coordination. He demonstrated administrative experience as Vice President for Governance and Administration at the Ethiopian Catholic University, where he managed financial and general administrative functions. He also holds a board position with the Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission.
The CBCE expresses gratitude to Bishop Lukas for his dedicated service and offers well wishes to Father Ketema as he takes on this new leadership role.
