Bishop Benjamin Phiri of Ndola Catholic Diocese in Zambia has urged Small Christian Communities to reach out to inactive Catholics, encouraging them to return to Church.
During his pastoral visit to St. Anthony – Mikomfwa Parish in Luanshya, Bishop Phiri emphasized the importance of Small Christian Communities (SCCs) reaching out to Catholics who are no longer practicing their faith and have stopped attending church.
Highlighting the need for SCCs to not only engage with active members but also with dormant ones, Bishop Phiri stressed the significance of understanding the reasons behind their absence and actively encouraging them to reconnect with the church.
“As we near the conclusion of the Jubilee for the Small Christian Communities, I urge SCCs to create a schedule for visiting those Catholics who are no longer attending church,” stated Bishop Phiri.
He emphasized that SCCs, being closely connected with the community, are well-positioned to address various issues within families and communities while providing support and encouragement for continued prayer.
SCCs, characterized by geographically demarcated groups, serve as platforms for sharing the Word of God and life experiences, fostering deeper Christian relationships.
