ZAMBIA: Prelate Elevates Solwezi Community with Ablution Block, 100 Bicycles for Catechists’ Ministry

Bishop Charles Sampa Kasonde of Solwezi Diocese in Zambia has handed over an ablution block at Tumvwang’anai Primary School in Solwezi, valued at approximately Seventy -two thousand Kwacha

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Bishop Kasonde emphasized the Catholic Church’s commitment not only to preaching but also to enhancing the economic and social well-being of the community.

He highlighted the Solwezi Diocese’s dedication to actively participating in the advancement of humanity, citing their collaboration with schools and sponsorship of pupils since early 2009.

Bishop Kasonde revealed that the construction of the ablution block was a joint effort with the Solemn Foundation, responding to a request from the Parents Teachers Committee and school management. He has since thanked the Foundation for heeding the call.

In addition to the infrastructure project, Bishop Kasonde handed over 100 bicycles to 38 parishes in Solwezi Diocese for catechists, totaling 360 Thousand Kwacha.

The funds were generously donated by the Church in Need of Germany.

Bishop Kasonde explained that the bicycles would enhance the mobility of catechists, enabling them to carry out their responsibilities more effectively within the parishes.

Recognizing the crucial role played by catechists in supporting the Church’s pastoral ministries, Bishop Kasonde emphasized their significance.

“Some catechists even step in to lead the congregation when the priest is unavailable, showcasing their dedication to serving the church,” Bishop Kasonde said.

Bishop Kasonde further urged catechists to maintain their unwavering commitment to serving the Church.

Bishop Kasonde has since expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that made these initiatives possible and called on all involved to continue working towards the betterment of the community and the church.
