ZAMBIA: Pontifical Mission Societies Reports 20% Surge in 2023 Missionary Collections

The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of the Catholic Church in Zambia has disclosed a remarkable 20 percent increase in collections of funds meant to support missionary work for the year 2023.
Bishop Edwin Mulandu, the PMS Director in Zambia, highlighted the PMS’s commitment to aiding the Holy Father in providing essential support to those serving in missionary territories.
The substantial collection, as revealed by Bishop Mulandu, was derived from special collections which include Mission Sunday, Epiphany Sunday and Vocation Sunday.
Bishop Mulandu who is the Bishop of Mpika Diocese, expressed his satisfaction, deeming the 20% increase in collection a significant milestone that will substantially contribute to the mission work undertaken by the PMS.
He says the funds collected by PMS play a vital role in supporting various initiatives, including mission hospitals, assistance to seminarians, construction of churches, and aid for those residing in remote areas, among other charitable endeavors.
Bishop Mulandu emphasized the broad impact of these funds, showcasing their importance in addressing critical needs in missionary territories.
The announcement came in the aftermath of the annual General Council meeting for PMS, where 11 Diocesan Directors gathered to discuss and strategize on the organization’s ongoing mission efforts.
Bishop Mulandu’s statement reflects the collective commitment of the PMS to making a positive and tangible difference in the lives of those served by their mission projects.
