Catholic Diocese of Ndola’s Bishop Rt. Rev. Benjamin Phiri has called on Christians to follow the example of Jesus by resisting the temptations of the present time.

Bishop Phiri emphasized that Lent is a crucial period for believers to align their lives with the compassionate spirit of Christ, who willingly endured suffering on Earth for the sake of humanity.

“In walking with the suffering Jesus, it is essential to abandon wicked ways and offer oneself wholly in the service of God and His Church,” stressed Bishop Phiri, underlining the transformative nature of this Lenten season.

The Bishop highlighted the contemporary challenges faced by Christians in a world driven by modernity and progressive ideologies.

He identified issues such as corruption, drunkenness, and social aggrandizement as prevalent temptations that demand resistance, echoing Jesus’ steadfastness against earthly temptations.

“Thriving in resisting these sins is our Lenten journey, mirroring Jesus’ commitment during His earthly time,” Bishop Phiri urged, encouraging the faithful to embrace virtue amid societal allurements.

Despite the myriad challenges encompassing political, social, economic, and spiritual realms, Bishop Phiri urged Christians to maintain a steadfast focus on Christ reassuring them that, amidst trials, God remains a watchful guardian over His faithful.

As the Lenten season unfolds, the Right Reverend Bishop Benjamin Phiri’s message serves as a guiding light for Christians, prompting reflection, repentance, and a strengthened commitment to virtuous living in emulation of Jesus Christ.
