Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale the Bishop of Kasese has urged Christians to show their commitment to environmental conservation alongside practicing the of fasting, prayer and almsgiving during this Lenten season.

Bishop Kibira said as the world express global warming, His Holiness the Pope in his Encyclical letter Laudato Si encouraged Christians to conserve the environment by embracing tree planting.

This will be the third Lenten season which the ordinary is preaching about tree plantation, the tradition he says must be instilled in the hearts of all believers and practically practiced.

In his homily while during Ash Wednesday Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Church in Kasese town, Bishop Kibira wondered why people are involved more in deforestation putting the world at risk of climate change.

Bishop Kibira said receiving the ashes is a biblical sign of repentance and forgiveness signifying the fragile nature of human beings.

Bishop Kibira wondered why individuals in the district shamelessly involve themselves in deforestation and wetland encroachment the activities that contradict efforts invested in protecting the natural resources.
