UGANDA: Government Acknowledge Church Efforts on Health Services in Kasese Diocese
Masereka Peter
Third Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama has hailed the Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale for prioritizing health services in his Diocese.
In her message delivered by the former Minister of Defense, Hon. Dr. Crispus Kiyonga during a donors’ conference for the construction of a theater at Kasanga Primary Health Care Center in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district on Sunday 18th Feb 2024, Rt. Hon. Nakadama said the establishment of Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital and the upgrade plans for Kasanga PHC to a health center four, were direction intervention by the Bishop to offload the community of a number of health challenges for a disease free local population.
Mr. Eriphaz Muhindi, the Kasese district Local Council Five chairperson commended the general population for their support, adding that the upgrade of Kasanga PHC to a health center four partly decongests Bwera general hospital to the advantage of the local population.
Earlier in his homily while presiding over holy Mass, the Vicar General for the Diocese of Kasese Msgr. Landaus, asked God’s people to give to their Creator what belongs to him, before reminding the congregation that the proposed upgrade of Kasanga PHC was a fulfilment of Christ’s healing mission.
The Member of Parliament for Bukonzo West constituency, Hon. Godfrey Atkins Katusabe repeated his earlier assurance message that the construction of Bukonzo West Sustainable Development Industries Ltd in Katholhu, Nyakiyumbu subcounty in Kasese district would as well help learners who currently pay much money to visit Namanve in Mukono and Jinja for factories.
About seventy million shillings was collected of close to 940 million shillings required to complete the theatre project. According to the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kasese, the whole project will cost about 1.2 billion shillings.
Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, the former Minister of Defense has described as diversionary for anybody to attach last year’s temporary closure of Isango Muslim primary school in Isango in Kasese District to any form of bias against the Islam faith.
The statement by Dr. Kiyonga follows utterances by Hon. Godfrey Katusabe, the Bukonzo County West Legislator who alleged that the school remains closed and why institutions based on the Islam faith are associated with subversive acts.
Addressing a donors’ conference for the construction of a theatre at Kasanga PHC in Kasese district yesterday, Dr. Kiyonga who asked leaders to research before making public statements on matters of public concern, said the institution that was later opened for operations, was temporarily closed by the Kasese RDC over security reasons after an attempt by unknown people to torch it.
Mr. Katusabe also made another surprising statement by asserting that the fish market was operating in the neighboring RDC market over security concerns and not because of the opposition politics at the border as some people think and that he was to meet Dr. Kiyonga in person over the same.
During his speech while representing Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, the third Deputy Prime Mister, the Chief Guest, Dr. Kiyonga asked Hon. Katusabe to join the NRM first before negotiating the legislative space in Bukonzo County West.
At the function, over seventy million shillings was collected for the project. END
