TANZANIA: Pope Appoints Father Wilbroad as Auxiliary of Dodoma Archdiocese

The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Father Wilbroad as auxiliary of Dodoma Archdiocese

A statement released on February 12, 2024 by the Secretary General of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) Father Charles Kitima explains that until the appointment, the Bishop-elect Father Henry Kiboz was Vice Gombera, was the Vice Rector at the   Holy Family Mwendakulima Major Seminary in Kahama-Tanzania.

Speaking on the phone with AMECEA correspondence, Bishop-elect Father Kibozi, said that he has received his appointment with humility and gratitude. However, he thanks God who has called him to the Priesthood life, now a bishop.

“I am a priest of Dodoma Archdiocese. I thank our bishop of Dodoma Archdiocese Most Rev. Beatus Kinyaiya, all the priests, lay faithful and the Church in Tanzania who have made me whom I am today.

“They formed me well now I am becoming one among their major Pastor in the diocese. Let us continue praying for unity and solidarity to journey together as a synodal Church,” he said.

He explained his short life history saying that he was born on April 30, 1973 in Dodoma. After his primary and secondary education, he was inspired to join priesthood formation.

He joined Philosophy at Ntungamo Major Seminary in Catholic Diocese of Bukoba and Theology at Kipalapala Major Seminary in Tabora Archdiocese. He was ordained a priest on July 9, 2010 as a Priest of Dodoma Catholic Diocese by then, now is the Archdiocese). He was ordained a deacon in the end of 2009 at Kiwanja Ndege Parish in Dodoma. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on July 9, 2010.

The bishop-elect made his mission in various places inside and outside the Catholic Archdiocese of Dodoma.” On July 9, 2010, he was a formator at Miyuji Junior seminary in Dodoma for about two years then he was sent by his diocese for further studies in Italy from 2017-2019. After his studies, he was assigned to work at Jordan University in Morogoro Diocese 2019-2020.

Bishops in Tanzania established a new Major Seminary of Mwendakulima in Kahama Diocese for Philosophy and later Theology in 2020.

“Until my appointed as auxiliary bishop of Dodoma Archdiocese, I have been a formator and Vice Rector of Seminary of Mwendakulima and helping mission in the Parish of Saints Kosma and Damiano here in Kahama as an assistant to the Parish Administrator,” he said.
