KENYA: Christian Unity, a Source of Encouragement to Denominations
By Geoffrey Omare
Every year Christians from Local Churches across the globe come together from 18-25 January between the feasts of St Peter and St Paul to pray for Christian Unity. This is an opportunity for Christians to pray for ecumenism.
“The importance of Christian Unity Week is to allow all Christians to come together share and start the year based on faith peace and unity,” Fr Charles Kilonzo from the commission of pastoral and lay apostolate at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) told Radio Waumini, emphasizing that “as we come together in prayer and ecumenical activities we want to respect all good things in other denominations based in Christian teaching.”
This year’s theme and Ecumenical prayer is a clarion call to Christians to continuously practice the Christian ethos, which is character, credibility, and moral values in all circumstances.
“When we come together as Christians, we learn from Each other not the aspect of prayer alone but in terms of ways of worship, addressing issues that come to us, since these issues don’t belong to one person,” Fr. Kilonzo added.
He wished the 2024 Christian Unity Week of Prayer be a source of encouragement and hope in our parishes, families, and societies.
