Archbishop Gialuca Perici the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, has urged Christians to move beyond mere hearing and embrace a profound communion with God through practical application of the word.
In homily delivered to the Bishops Conference, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops, during the Eucharistic celebration to mark the beginning of their Plenary, the Vatican Ambassador stressed the need for believers to go beyond passive listening, emphasizing the importance of aligning actions with the teachings of the Bible.
His Excellency Archbishop Perici highlighted that a genuine communion with God requires a personal and immerse spiritual connection. He urged Christians to transcend the confines of traditional kinship, recognizing that true communion with the divine surpasses the significance derived from hereditary relationships.
Quoting Jesus’ profound words, “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister, and mother.” the Apostolic Nuncio reminded the bishops, priests and religious that these words can create a unique communion with Jesus, a connection that even some religious leaders struggle to attain.
The Nuncio emphasized the importance of humility, urging all to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to become not just listeners but active practitioners of the word of God. This transformation, he suggested, is crucial for establishing a profound and meaningful connection with the divine.
The Bishops Plenary is being in Lusaka at the Kapingila house, attended by eleven (11) Bishops from all the dioceses across the country from 23rd January to 26th January 2024.
