ZAMBIA: Archbishop of Lusaka Inspires Hope and Unity amid Cholera Crisis

Archbishop of Lusaka Dr. Alick Banda who recently visited St. Joseph Kanyama Parish in Lusaka, offering comfort and home to the community that has been gripped by the Cholera pandemic.
The Archbishop walked around the parish compound coming to grips with the difficulties Cholera has brought to people’s lives in the area. He met the afflicted, listening to their sad stories and spoke comforting words, while reminding everyone to stay strong and have faith during tough times.
The visit by Archbishop Banda also inspired everyone to stay determined, turning St. Joseph Kanyama into a symbol of triumph against hard challenges. His presence made everyone feel united, going beyond the church walls and together, they faced the tough times, standing strong against the invisible enemy.
As news of the Archbishop’s visit spread, the parish stirred with renewed hope. Volunteers rallied, and a spirit of communal resilience ignited. Dr. Alick Banda’s visit not only addressed the physical toll of Cholera but sowed the seeds of a collective determination to overcome adversity, transforming St. Joseph Kanyama into a symbol of triumph against the darkest of challenges.
And during the Eucharistic celebration, the Archbishop shared a message from the Bible, encouraging everyone to follow the example of Simon Peter.
“Jesus Christ is asking us to leave our old lives and everything that stops us from following in his footsteps,” The Most Reverend said, giving a message of hope and strength to the community facing a tough health crisis.
Cholera outbreak which was first reported in October 2023 has seen a dramatic increase in transmission since mid-December in Zambia. The country has so far recorded over 8,000 cases and 400 ravaging mainly in peri-urban areas of Lusaka Province, which still has the most cases.
