UGANDA: Bishop Wanok Appeals for Holistic Education in Lira Diocese

The Bishop of Lira diocese Rt Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok has called on families in Lira Diocese to unite in educating their children in a move to have a better future.

During a week diocesan pastoral council for Lira Diocese that started on 14th January to 19th January 2024 the bishop noted with concern the need for parents to make their families domestic schools for their children.

He stressed and emphasized the need for catechesis, human, spiritual and moral formation to be conducted in all learning institutions within Lira diocese noting that it requires cooperation from all key stake holders.

The bishop cited examples of the schools and institutions like Uganda Martyrs University as a learning institution to be used by parents in ensuring that they send their children to get better education.

Bishop was concerned that some people are not using the schools established in Lira Diocese but instead, they are using other schools outside saying it is timely for everybody to come together to support schools that are established within the region.

He appealed to people to ensure food security in families for a better nutrition to enable them live healthy and productive saying it can only be realized when the available land is used for food production.

In his address to the members of the Diocesan Pastoral council, he reminded them to play their roles responsibly in environmental protection through proper disposal of polythene materials like plastic bottles among others.

He equally reiterated the need for prayers in families stating that parents should show to their children the way of living in a Godly manner.

The prelate constantly reminded the Pastoral council members to ensure zero tolerance to corruption and promote accountability in all sectors within the diocese.

Bishop Wanok spoke passionately about investments and savings in that such should be the way for all families to take as the priority to enable them achieve desired mission.

He concluded by saying he is confident that the ideas raised during the Diocesan Pastoral Council meeting will be implemented and asked the participants to pray fervently for the successful implementation of plans laid down.
