Children in the Diocese of Zomba have asked church leaders to give them space and room to play various roles within the church.

Speaking during the Eucharistic celebration of Epiphany at St. Joseph Sunuzi Parish in the diocese last Sunday, children asked leaders to allow them to take part in various church activities.

The children explained that their active participation in church matters gives hope for a vibrant future church, hence making that call.

They further asked parents to help them love and serve the church by supporting them with resources and prayers whenever they are tasked with church activities.

The Bishop of the Diocese Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima urged the children to be models amongst themselves by joining church groups found and working hard in their studies.

The Catholic leader in the Diocese of Zomba further urges parents to be the light to their children by being exemplary in the families where children come from and also encouraged them to safeguard the children by protecting them from early marriages.

Epiphany is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of Jesus to the gentiles. The word epiphany comes from the Greek word meaning “manifestation.” The feast also commemorates the visit of the Magi to the Christ child, and that is Jesus’ physical manifestation to the Gentiles.

In Malawi, the feast was celebrated in all the churches in the country, and children were seen leading the liturgy. Some children were also given opportunities to participate in the broadcasting services of the church’s media channels that were established to complement the work of evangelization of the gospel.
