UGANDA: President Museveni Calls for Prioritization of Health

Psychological torture as a result of domestic violence, food insecurity and poverty are partly to blame for ill health among the local community members in Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni has said.

President Museveni who re-affirmed his commitment to protect the lives and property of Ugandans and beyond against terrorists, said insecurity among family members was largely caused by family frictions, ill health, low education levels and poverty he asked Ugandans to neutralize through various poverty alleviation programs by government.

In his speech presented by Hon. Raphael Magyezi, the Minister for Local Government who represented him as the Chief Guest at the official commissioning and opening of Mt. St. Mary’s specialized hospital in Kasese on 18th November 2023, Mr. Museveni asked the people of Kasese to prioritize their health by taking control of situations that force poor hygiene, sanitation and frustrate plans for improved living conditions.

Bishop Kibira who asked for total commitment to work, care and love for their clients by the facility staff, called for government support before announcing that his hands were open to the Kasese Municipal and the district leaderships for a especial plan that would see the vulnerable mountainous areas served by Mt. St. Mary’s hospital.

Bishop Kibira was dispelling fears by His Worship Chance Kahindo, the Kasese Municipal Mayor who after commending the Ordinary of Kasese for the hospital project expressed concern over the alarming medication needs of the mountainous that do not only have health personnel challenges but have dire transportations challenges.

In his homily while proving over fist holy Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral Church this morning, Bishop Kibira who appreciated his Germany friends for various developments in Uganda, asked Christians to bear the burden of discipline and regrets with the latter being the biggest challenge in life.

Earlier at the hospital commissioning function yesterday, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, the State Minister for National guidance, asked Kasese people to support and turn into strong pillars of development before commending Bishop Kibira for being a strategic lobbyist for the survival of God’s people.

The Germany Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Mathias Schauer urged the locals to take good care of the health facility that have consumed over 6billion Uganda shillings of which 80% of the money spent was from the pocket of the Germany tax payers.

Representing the his boss, Hon. Hamu Natuhwera, the Kasese district Vice Chairman who said Mt. St. Mary’s hospital was a timely back up to good health of the locals, said his boss’ hands were tied up about the recent government policy to withdraw civil servants from privately owned health facilities.

The opening of Mt. St. Mary’s hospital was also blessed by the Rwenzururu King, His majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma accompanied by Her Royal Highness, Agnes Ithungu Asimawe among others. END
