The Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops are assembling at the Catholic Diocese of Wau ahead of the Eucharistic Congress which is to be launched on Sunday, November 26.
On September 1st 2023, the Bishops launched the logo for the Eucharistic Congress.
His Eminence Gabriel Zubier Cardinal Wako from Sudan called for Unity among the people of South Sudan to overcome all the difficulties.
“South Sudanese should be united as one body and work together to overcome all the difficulties the country is facing putting into consideration that all of us are responsible before God for our country,” Archbishop Emeritus of Khartoum, Sudan said.
The Cardinal who retired in 2016 after serving as a Bishop for over 40 years, thanked God for bringing all bishops from Sudan and South Sudan together to celebrate the launching of the Eucharistic Congress, with the people of Wau Diocese and for the opportunity to be part of the same congress.
Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin in his message urged the faithful to stand strong in faith and reconcile with one another to bring unity to themselves and peace in the society.
“Stand strong in faith so that you can participate in bringing unity, reconciliation, and above all peace in the society that is scattered by tribalism and political dissension.”
His Eminence Ameyu called on believers to bring communities together using their faith that is being professed in Jesus Christ.”
He narrated, “All of us can bring peace and unity in our society. As such it is a task for everyone to take up the role of bringing peace and unity. I know that we can make it happen, we must bring our community together that is broken apart by tribalism, and political opposition in South Sudan.”
He disclosed that only those who believe can bring Unity and reconciliation to South Sudan.
“Only people who believe can bring that unity, only people who believe can bring that reconciliation, and so the task of reconciliation is upon us who profess the faith in Jesus Christ.”
Cardinal Ameyu explained that the Eucharistic Congress is the summit of Christians’ lives, citing that it is very important for Christians to celebrate together with Bishops.
“We are here again to celebrate the Eucharistic Congress, and this Eucharistic celebration is the summit of our lives as Christians. I would like all of us to join and celebrate this important occasion because it is the summit of our lives and it strengthens us for a journey.”
The launching of the Eucharistic Congress on Sunday 26, 2023, will be concluded with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee Hierarchy at the Archdiocese of Juba next year on the 24 of November 2024.
