MALAWI: Catholic Church Closes the Mission Month Christians Urged to Continue Sharing Faith
By Brenard Mwanza
The Catholic Church in Malawi joined the Universal Church on 31st October 2023 to close the mission month of October which is known for the propagation of faith and praying the Rosary.
The final mass took place at Our Lady of the Poor Ngabu parish in the diocese of Chikwawa on the national level, with other diocesan activities in their respective places.
His Lordship Rt. Rev. Peter Musikuwa, of Chikwawa Diocese who led the mass encouraged the Christians to continue preaching the good news despite the closure of the Marian month.
“There is no time for us to relax in our mission work despite the closure of the mission month. There are many ways in which we can share faith to others through prayers and charity”. Bishop Musikuwa said.
On his part, Fr. Matthias Thawani, the PMS director of the archdiocese of Blantyre, who represented the National director Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa hailed the diocese for being exemplary in running all the activities of the mission month of October adding that hearts of the Christians are indeed on fire with hope that their feet will then move to preach the good news to many people.
The parish has managed to raise about 980 US dollars which the bishop said it vindicates the fact that they can do more than how the parish thinks.
This was the first time for the diocese of Chikwawa to host the mission month of October alongside the World Mission Sunday national celebration.
The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) is yet to decide and make communication as to which parish will host the mission month activities in 2024.
End.
