TANZANIA: Pope Francis Appoints Bishop for Two Dioceses in Tanzania, Bukoba and Njombe

On Thursday, October, 19, the Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Jovitus Mwijage and Rev. Fr. Eusebia Kyando to be Local Ordinaries for the Catholic Dioceses of Bukoba and Njombe, respectively.
“Bishop Elect Jovitus Mwijage was born on December 2, 1966 in Misenyi District, Catholic Diocese of Bukoba. After his priesthood formation he was ordained a priest on July 20, 1997 in Bukoba diocese and served in various mission positions in Bukoba and the TEC as Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS)” stated.
Bishop-elect Mwijage has served as Assistant Parish Priest of Mwemage Parish, formator of Rubya Minor Seminary, Catholic Diocese of Bukoba. From 2005 to 2011, he was sent by the Catholic Diocese of Bukoba to further his studies and thus obtain a PhD in Church history in 2012. Between 2011-2012 he was a teacher of Church history, at the St. Charles Lwanga Major Seminary, Catholic Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
From 2012 to 2023 he was appointed as the Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, PMS, Tanzania.
On the other hand, Bishop Elect Kyando was born on March 7, 1964 in Njombe. He got his primary education in Unenamwa school (1976-1982). He received secondary education at the Minor Seminary of St. Kizito-Mafinga, Iringa Catholic Diocese.
He continued with philosophy and theology studies at Saint Augustine Major Seminary-Peramiho in the Catholic Archdiocese of Songea. He was ordained a priest on June 19, 1996.
