UGANDA: Pastoral Agents Urged to Mould the Young Generation into Evangelization Ministers
Masereka Peter
The bishop for Uganda’s Kasese Diocese Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira has implored church leaders to turn catechumenate and Missionary Childhood gatherings into firm pillars for preparing the younger generation of Christians to active evangelization ministry.
Bishop Kibira said the young generation can be empowered physically and spiritually so as to grow strong in faith should they be encouraged to join various church movements, as well as catechizing each other in short bible storytelling, poems, music, dance and drama that are based on the norms and teaching of the Catholic Church.
Bishop Kibira who is known for being a strong defender of children’s rights and a friend to the youth was impressed during his pastoral visit to Kahokya RCC of St. Peter and Paul Kitabu Parish, where missionary childhood presented a song which well interpreted the process to receive holy sacraments.
He said for members of the Missionary Childhood to take up the roles as Religious Sisters, priests and bishops among others, inspires and guides them into responsible and God-fearing young men and women.
In his homily during holy mass where over 240 Christians received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Ordinary challenged clan leaders to make good use of their annual family gatherings to put across strategies that would ease the living condition of the future generation.
The prelate who was bothered about the deteriorating morals among the youth, was concerned that some parents and clan leaders were doing too little in guiding morals among the young people thus, doubting the continuity of some clans.
He said it was the role of clan leaders to organize annual family meetings that will among others address their clan’s future with emphasis on positive parenting and discipline of the children among others issues of focus.
Bishop Kibira later called for hard work before warning the youth against unregulated consumption of alcohol and drug abuse that have diverted many family heads from their obligation thus, turning wives into beasts of burden.
