Sr.Sarah Muhindo DST
The bishop of Fort-Portal Diocese Rt. Rev.Robert K Muhiirwa has appealed to the people of God on a radio program to respond to the teachings of the Holy Father Pope Francis in his Pastoral letter “Laudato Si” whose realm is praising God for the gift of creation in which the Holy father is appealing to all people to protect and respect the gift of creation.
The Bishop further explained that the Holy Father, in his message of Laudato Si’ and the Letter, argues all people not to become more destructive by misusing the environment but plant trees, manage plastic waste, conserve wetlands/lakes/rivers, and enact other good conservation practices to protect and safeguard the common home today and for the future generations. All people of God have been asked to amplify their voices to all people of all generation to care for our common home.
‘We uphold that we should keep the environment clean. We should not do anything destructive that can do anything destructive, which can bring danger to our common home’ the Bishop added during a radio presentation.
In 2022, Bishop Muhiirwa represented Uganda Episcopal conference at the 20th plenary assembly of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) in Dar-es-Salaam, where one of the key topics for discussion was “conservation of Mother Earth”.
The Bishop has appealed to the public to plant more trees and restore nature to absorb more carbon to protect forests and plant as many trees as possible.
