Five Sister students under the sponsorship of Higher Education for Sisters in Africa (HESA) at the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) have performed outstandingly during their first year, second semester’s respective examinations.
Sisters Yasinta Mustafa, Charity Malisawo, Jostina Nguluwe, Clare Masanjala, all from Nguludi main campus, and Sr Miriam Malamba from Lilongwe satellite campus were recognized for scoring an average of over 70 percent, which is strong credit.
Sister Mustafa, a Sacramentine nun, says her remarkable achievement was due to hard work and determination. Further, she says her participation in group discussions with colleagues paid off and contributed to her success.
“I feel excited for the achievement recorded. It’s nothing but God’s grace and favour. I feel motivated hence will strive to continue doing well in the proceeding semesters,” said Mustafa.
Mustafa, who passed all the seven courses under the accountancy program thanked ASEC through HESA program for supporting her with tuition fees, laptop and money for buying learning materials.
For Sr Malisawo, a Camerite Sister who is pursuing Bachelor of Education and majoring in Geography, she says for such an achievement to be accomplished, her concentration was on continuous assessments, mid-semester and end of semester examinations.
“In our class, we are 24 students and I merged the only one recognized for the outstanding performance. I scored an overall grade of 7o percent which is a no mean achievement,” she said.
Malawi’s ASEC Country Director Sister Hilaria Chombo said she was excited with the performance of the five sisters. She has since encouraged them to continue working hard as a token of appreciation to the sponsors.
“On behalf of all the students and their congregations in Malawi, I would like to thank our donors for the timely donation they render us. Our sisters will never be the same when the complete their studies. May God continue to bless our donors so that this program continues and benefit many,” she said.
So far, there are 24 students enrolled with CUNIMA since 2021.
At least 18 sisters, two of them pursued Master’s degrees and have graduated from the program.
