ZAMBIA: Rt. Rev. Kasonde Toasts 13 Years as Bishop

Fr. Stephen Kapalu

Bishop Charles Kasonde has celebrated 13 years since his episcopal consecration and installation as the Ordinary of Solwezi.

Bishop Kasonde says peace and unity are the only means to ensure the Church’s prosperity in faith and aid national development.

“The Church cannot grow if, among Christians themselves, there were elements of tribalism and hatred,” he said.

The Ordinary of Solwezi said this when he delivered his homily during mass held at St. Daniels Cathedral Parish to mark his 13th episcopal anniversary.

Bishop Kasonde has also said Christians must to promote peace, love, and unity in order to foster development in the country.

He further called on leaders in the country to work in close collaboration in order for the general citizenship to realize and appreciate the abundant natural resources the country has.

He condemned the conflicts in Sudan and the war between Russia and Ukraine and appealed to the leaders in countries where there was war to ceasefire as it affected innocent souls especially children.

He also appealed and asked the general public to continue praying for these countries in order to save mankind.

Bishop Charles Kasonde was ordained and installed as Bishop of Solwezi Diocese on 29th May 2010, taking over from Bishop Alick Banda who is now the Archbishop of Lusaka.

Since his installation one of the achievements is construction of churches and re-translation and update of the Bible into Lunda, Luvale and Kaonde languages.

Previously, the diocese depended on an old translation of the Bible done by the Bible Society of Zambia for its evangelization purposes.
