The Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has this week made a donation of approximately $5,000 United States Dollars to the Diocese of Kalonga to support people affected by the drought in the northern part of Malawi.
The donation follows Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka’s plea to well-wishers to support people affected in the northern part of the country.
NRWB Board Chairperson Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo said the donation follows Bishop Mtumbuka’s appeal to support families affected by the dry spell.
Bishop Mtumbuka has since applauded the water board for the donation, saying it will go a long way in changing people’s lives in the northern part.
Earlier on, Bishop Mtumbuka made a call to well-wishers to support people in the diocese affected by the drought in northern Malawi.
The Diocese of Karonga plans to mobilize K50 million ($50,000 USD) for the procurement of planting materials such as cassava cuttings, sweet potato vines, and maize under its Emergency Relief Response project to assist over 38 000 households affected by the dry spell in Karonga.
Reports reveal that the southern part of Malawi received heavy rains that caused floods and mudslides that killed hundreds of people, while the northern part had dry spells, posing a threat of food shortages.
