UGANDA: Bishop of Lira Appeals for Exemplary Lifestyle Among Leaders

Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok

Fr. Isaac Ojok

Bishop of Uganda’s Lira Diocese Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok has implored leaders in the nation to help citizens live responsible lives.

The Bishop said leaders should be vigilant and help people they lead to live responsibly in nurturing the younger generation to stay away from the deeds which are not acceptable in the society.

He cited example that at the moment, society is registering many cases of theft, vandalism, killings engineered by the young populace, saying it is a bad sign indicating that leaders are not guiding people to live exemplary life.

Bishop Santos continued narrating that in his observation, the country is filled with many cases of corruption, embezzlement of public funds which is a big shame to the nation and it is causing misery to the innocent citizens who are supposed to be served.

As a result, he said, this has undermined the quality of service delivery the citizens in the country are supposed to enjoy as their privilege noting that it is timely for leaders to wake up and address the challenges which have become a national concern.

Bishop Wanok who doubles as the Vice Chairperson of Uganda Episcopal Conference-(UEC) further decried the high level of selfishness among the community which is denying people better services from those with the obligation and responsibility to render such services to the people.

In his address, he decried the insecurity situation which is threatening the lives of the community especially when their property, livestock, agricultural products and other assets are being taken away from them forcefully despite the presence of well-coordinated security network.

The prelate urged the parents and leaders at all levels to be vigilant and strongly condemn misconduct like homosexuality, and excessive use of substances like alcohol and others so that young children are guided to live and embrace productive activities.

Even if people now feel suppressed due to many challenges surrounding their lives, the bishop encouraged them to pray constantly during this period of lent so that they can be relieved and remain free from other forces of evil being encountered.

Alongside prayers, he implored Christian community to always share their challenges with one another in a bid to avoid and minimize cases of despair resulting from torture and trauma people are undergoing at the moment.

He concluded by reiterating that it is timely for leaders and other responsible stakeholders in the country to help people live better life in love, unity and peace God has designed for His people to enjoy.
