MALAWI: Zimbabwe Hails PMS Malawi for Supporting People’s Integral Development
Brenard Mwanza
National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Zimbabwe Father Kizito Mhundu has hailed the Malawi PMS office for its passion in uplifting lives of communities through different charitable activities.
Father Mhundu said Malawi is doing well in ensuring that communities are not only supported spiritually but also physically for their full growth.
He hinted that it is Pope Francis’ tool for supporting young churches through prayer and charity, citing a Holy Childhood project at Thavite Rural Clinic under Benga Parish in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe where PMS has built a children’s ward, which will benefit more people.
‘‘Whilst you see a lot of prayer, the children praying the missionary rosary, you also see the project like the one at Benga in Nkhotakota and you would see how the community will benefit from that children’s ward.’’
Through a recent PMS National council meeting held in Salima from 28th February to 3rd March, Father Mhundu observed that diocesan directors are playing a very crucial role in setting a good pace of activities by having yearly work plans.
‘‘You would see that each and every diocesan director has his program and his plans and these plans are more or less similar and uniform that means all the people of Malawi are receiving the same from their diocesan directors, which is commendable,’’ he said.
Father Mhundu also noted that the involvement of the laity as collaborators in its activities is bringing in a huge impact in PMS activities both in prayer and charity aspects which is not the case with Zimbabwe and that they will ably utilize such experiences.
On his part, PMS Malawi National Director Father Vincent Mwakhwawa thanked Father Mhundu for visiting Malawi through the Episcopal Conference of Malawi and that the lessons shared will also help the National office in its activities.
Father Mwakhwawa has since pledged PMS Malawi’s commitment in doing charity as it is one of the pillars of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
PMS is a missionary society of the Catholic Church entrusted with the work of evangelization, prayer and charitable activities throughout the world and in Malawi, it has been involved in areas of health and education among others.
