Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB)’s Bishop Director for Pastoral Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu says Catholic lay groups play a very important role in the life of the lay faithful.

Speaking when he opened a 2-day ZCCB Pastoral Commission’s meeting in Lusaka at Kapingila house, Bishop Mulandu said the lay faithful activities that are witnessed in dioceses are clear testimony of what a lay group means to the lay faithful a reason they need to be supported.

Bishop Mulandu expressed delight that the ZCCB Pastoral Commission is working on the constitutions of lay groups.

“I have no doubt that when we support the lay groups with sound formation, sound leadership and guidance, we will be forming solid Christians who will not be shaken by any false doctrines and the campaigns that so many sects carry on in compounds. Through pastoral care to lay groups, we will build the faith of God’s people. I implore you to attach great importance to what you are doing during these two days of your meeting,” Bishop Mulandu said.

And making an appeal to Pastoral Commissioners to give special attention to the Catholic Men Organization’s constitution, Rt. Rev. Mulandu made reference to the recent preliminary report on the outcome of the synodal journey.
Men in general were identified to be among the groups that don’t participate fully in the activities of the Church.

“They were said to be among the groups that are lagging behind. I have no doubt that the document you are working on will be one of the means that will help our menfolk to come on board and offer desired participation in the life of the church,” he said.

Bishop Mulandu has since pledged support to ensure that the pastoral department is given adequate and steady allocation of funds in the ZCCB budget to ensure the successful implementation of the pastoral programs.

The ZCCB Pastoral meeting which has attracted 17 participants will close on Saturday 3rd December 2022.
