UGANDA: Justice and Peace Commission Lira on the Lead in Training Pastoral Councilors

Justice and Peace Commission in Uganda’s Lira Diocese is taking initiative to train Pastoral Councilors to be effective leaders in the church.
At the moment, the commission is traversing the parishes in the diocese to train on leadership skills for pastoral councilors to be servants who can lead and offer services to the people of God.
In an interview with AMECEA correspondent, Mr. Cyprian Okello the Coordinator for Lira’s Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) disclosed that, so far, they have moved to more than three Parishes in the Diocese.
He mentioned that in their meeting with participants, they are training the Pastoral council members beginning from the chapel to parish level to help them observe and appreciate other values and norms in the society as they encounter one another.
Furthermore, he shared that they are also focusing on how people can be empowered to discover and use their resources meaningfully to strengthen their communities.
He went on to say, the move is intended to help the members to understand other values which the church teaches with particular focus on individual roles and leadership in the family to create way to build responsi
ble, resilient and productive families.
The activities being taken by Justice and Peace Commission is also focusing on identifying gaps in communities which are observed as a setback to human growth and development.
Consequently, Mr. Okello added that they are also tackling topics in relation to conflict resolution, dialogue, forgiveness and reconciliation in a move to help the community to live peacefully.
According to the community members, the activities being rolled out by Justice and Peace Commission have started to heal scars and other adverse effects of war created by the insurgency of the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels (LRA) in Northern Uganda for almost two decades.
