MALAWI: “Chiefs Critical to Bringing Souls to Salvation”

President of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) Archbishop George Desmond Tambala says chiefs who are Catholic are a critical tool to help bring more people to salvation.

The prelate for the Archdiocese of Lilongwe said this on Saturday November 19, 2022 at St. Bernadetta (Chitula) Catholic Parish in Dowa denary when he commissioned the interim leadership of the association of Catholic chiefs in the archdiocese.

“People live with chiefs. Chiefs date back to Biblical times. They have a role to play in society. Chiefs and the church can work together for the spiritual and physical benefit of the people of God.

“The ultimate is for us to lead people to Christ,” said Archbishop Tambala.

Most Rev. Tambala therefore urged the chiefs to become light in the communities they lead by serving people as believers and playing an active role in the spiritual, socio-cultural and development life of the church in the archdiocese.

A representative of the Catholic chiefs expressed gratitude that the church recognized chiefs and the role they can play in helping better lives of the people.

Over 50 Catholic traditional chiefs of various levels of leadership seniority turned up for the event at the new parish from almost all deaneries of the Archdiocese.
