MALAWI: Catholic University Angelic Choir Donates to Needy Students

The Catholic Students Organization Angelic Choir of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) has made a donation of assorted items to needy students at the University.
Speaking after a handover ceremony of the items to the Office of the University Chaplain on Wednesday this week, CUNIMA’s Angelic Choir Chairperson Christopher Jackson said the choir has donated the items following an assessment that showed that some students at the campus lack basic needs.
“We noted that amongst us, we have fellow students who fail to reach their basic needs for their survival hence we thought we can do something that can be of impact to their lives,” said Jackson.
The Chairperson added that the choir used money realized from the sales of their DVD Album, Ndizatamanda Ambuye which was launched this year at St James Parish Chilomoni, in the Archdiocese of Blantyre on 29th May to buy the donated items.
Commenting after receiving the donation the University Chaplain for the Catholic University of Malawi, Father Kondwani Mwenegamba commended the Angelic Choir members for the gesture to their fellow students.
“They have demonstrated what the Church teaches us to do through Catholic Social Teachings where we have this principle of Preferential Option for the Poor and the Vulnerable,” said Father Mwenegamba.
Father Mwenegamba added that Chaplaincy Office is to distribute the items to all deserving students regardless of their religious affiliation.
“Let me take also this opportunity to reach out to other well-wishers; individuals, groups, and the corporate world to come and assist needy students at the Catholic University of Malawi. Being a private university doesn’t mean that we do enroll students who are coming from rich families; we have students who are coming from very poor families and you will be shocked when you hear their stories,” added Father Mwenegamba.
The Angelic Choir further disclosed plans to reach out to the villages around the Montfort-Campus of the Catholic University of Malawi and the elderly Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary (S.B.V.M) Mary view Generalate in Chiradzulu district with their helping hand.
