UGANDA: Msgr. Landaus Warns Teachers Against Going on Strike at Learners Expense

The Vicar General of the Diocese of Kasese Msgr. Landaus Bwambale has described it as inhuman for a teacher to abandon a learner over low pay instead of focusing on the future of the student.
Presiding over the awarding of certificates of merit to the former staff that extraordinarily contributed to the success of St. John`s Minor Seminary-Kiburara in Kasese yesterday, Msgr. Landaus who represented the Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese hailed the awardees for focusing on the future of the learners than abandoning them for increased pay.
He described industrial actions such as strikes by teachers as a frustration to education of the innocent learners who do not have much to do reverse such situations.
Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Kasese Rt. Rev. Egidio Nkaijanabwo who once served as Seminary Board chairperson described Saint John’s Seminary as a God-sent gift whose fruits are visible.
On his part, the Commissioner for Secondary Education Standards in the Ministry of Education and Sports Mr. Baritazari Kule Benson commended the Catholic Church for contributing towards the education development in Kasese by establishing schools in each of the constituencies in Kasese district.
On the same day Rev. Fr. John Baptist Kule received instruments of power from Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Muhindo as the new Chairperson Board of Governor at St. Johns Minor Seminary- Kiburara, with a call for team work in achieving the core goals of the institution.
In his acceptance speech at St. Johns Minor Seminary Board Room, Rev. Fr. John Baptist Kule who doubles as the Bukangara Parish Priest, commended the effort of the old board of Governors towards fulfilling the mission and vision of the seminary.
The outgoing Chairperson Board of Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Muhindo who is also the Rector St. Paul Kinyamaseka Major Seminary, highlighted a number of achievements, including renovation of classroom blocks, construction of Science Laboratory, increased enrolment and resettling debts among others.
During induction, the Kasese District Education officer, Mr. George Mayinja encouraged the new Board members to make a strategic plan in line with the institutions Motto, Vision and Mission.
St. John Minor Seminary in her 39 years of existence has produced 38 serving priests and other well shaped Men serving the country in various offices. END
