The Bishop Director for Education and Child Safeguarding under Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Rt Rev. Patrick Chisanga has noted the role education plays in the overall mission of the Church.

Bishop Chisanga said education plays a special role in the integral development and evangelization of the people of Zambia.

He said that the exceptional standing and academic results Catholic schools in Zambia score every year are a clear mark of commitment to the mission of the Church by headteachers running Catholic schools.

“Remain committed and faithful followers of Christ and draw your inspirations, your strength and guidance from the word of God, from the gospels and the social teachings of the church. We are proud of you and your contribution to the church the country,” bishop Chisanga said he said.

Bishop Chisanga said Thursday 22nd September, 2022 in Lusaka when he opened the Annual assembly of headteachers running Catholic schools in Zambia.

And Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Mr. Joe Kamoko has urged headteachers serving in grant aided, private and public schools to urgently and professionally deal with escalating cases of bullying, substance abuse and all forms of bad behavior among learners.

Permanent Secretary Kamoko has reiterated that government will continue carrying out its mandate of building and maintaining schools including other educational institutions.

He added that government understands that it is its duty to ensure citizens receive adequate education from early childhood and tertiary by providing enough and quality infrastructure, learning materials and enough teachers.

Mr. Kamoto further said government will also provide subsidies to grant aided schools, bursaries to tertiary institutions and pay teachers.

He explained that this is to ensure that all those who would like to acquire education especially the poor are given an opportunity a reason why government has also recruited teachers.
