UGANDA: Bishop Kibira Faults Traders on Commodity Prices

The Bishop Diocese of Kasese in Uganda Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira has protested of traders taking advantage of the current financial crisis to unnecessarily increase prices of essential commodities terming it unfair.
During Holy Mass on Sunday, September 18, at St Charles Lwanga Ruboni Catholic Church during his pastoral tour in St. Matia Mulumba Ibanda Parish where more than three hundred Christians were confirmed in the Catholic Church, the Bishop said whereas prices of most essential goods had raised, taking advantage of the situation by falsifying weigh scales, marketing expired and adulterated commodities, is a sin.
Bishop Kibira who also opened the Ruboni Catholic Church Eucharistic center, re-echoed his earlier appeal for catechists to teach Catechumens in the local language, and for the young generation to treasure education for a better future.
Earlier, the Ibanda Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Expedito Masereka asked the Bishop to support the parish idea of starting up a skills center in Ibanda town to skill the youth.
The Parish chairman for the Laity Mr. Laurence Turiganya commended Bishop Kibira for supporting the saving and credit groups of the catholic women association members whose affordable interest loans, were improving their livelihoods.
The chairperson LC3 Ibanda-Kyanya town council, Mr. Modest Bwambale Kanekerya called for more support to the education and health plans in his area.
The Bishop`s Pastoral journey in St. Matia-Mulumba Ibanda Parish, was the first confirmation in the diocese of Kasese since 2019 following the two years Covid-19 lockdown.
During Holy Mass, Bishop Kibira was assisted by the Diocesan Treasury Rev. Fr. Joseph Kule Syathetha and Priests from Ibanda Parish led by the Parish Priest.
