UGANDA: Diocese of Kasese Celebrates 100 Years of Legion of Mary
The diocese of Kasese has held her centenary celebrations of the legion of Mary in the world, with a call on parents and guardians to focus more on guiding the younger generation in the right way.
The younger generations under the Junior Legion of Mary are the pillars of the future church and family life that is the basis of spreading the Gospel of Christ.
The Legion of Mary was founded on the 7th Sept 1921 in Dublin, Ireland, and on Saturday 03rd Sept 2022 the celebrations at Nsenyi Catholic Parish headquarters made the diocese of Kasese the 15th diocese in Uganda to mark the celebration which will be followed by Kampala Archdiocese on 07th Sept among other Dioceses.
In his homily while presiding over holy Mass, Bishop Kibira Francis the ordinary of Kasese who highlighted the theme of the celebration as “live and serve God in accompany with our Mother, the blessed Virgin Mary” asked parents and guardians to devote their families under the protection and intercession of Mother Mary.
Bishop Kibira called on parents and guardians to promote the education of the young generation and help them grow strong in the Catholic faith through joining various Church movements especially the legion of Mary among others.
The Prelate later asked members of the Legion of Mary to keep the candle of faith burning not only for today but for the future generation, including men for exemplary families.
Bishop Kibira Kambale who hailed some parishes for establishing Catholic Men Associations and continuous reciting of the rosary, said it was paramount for men to join their wives in the legion of Mary for purposes of receiving the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for stable families.
He asked the legionaries to emulate the Blessed Virgin Mary of humbleness, loving, patience and prayerful, before wondering why some Christians pretend to love Christ but have no respect for his mother.
The Ordinary of Kasese later commended Ms Helen Ithungu a young woman living with disability, of Kagando cell, for her generosity that saw her contribute One Million Uganda Shillings she kept saving, toward the construction of the new Cathedral Church.
The Kasese diocesan chaplain of the legion of Mary, Rev. Fr. John Baptist Kule asked the legionaries and Christians at large to follow the standing orders and values for the movement to move forward so as to lead all souls into heaven.
The President of the Sanctus, Bro. Aloysius Kiribaki and the former President Sr. Susan Mary Nsubuga encouraged the young legionaries to get focused and continue praying through the intercession of Mother Mary for the bright future of the church.
The Hon. Godfrey Katusabe, the Bukonzo West County MP who was the Chief Guest hailed especially the young generation to join the Legionary before leading the mini fundraising that realized over 6million shillings toward the construction of the new Kasese Cathedral church.
The Legislator pledged with effective this month, to contribute one million shillings monthly for the cathedral construction and school fees for the seminarians for the love of his Church and Christ`s Mission on earth.
The Nsenyi Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Godfrey Sunday had earlier commended Christians of Nsenyi Parish and other well wishers for collecting 10 million shillings in cash towards the construction of the new Kasese cathedral.
The legion of Mary in the Diocese of Kasese which started with one praesidium at Nsenyi Parish is currently having a total number of 451 Praesidia, 217 junior groups, 118 school praesidia. END
