Sudan and South Sudan Bishops’ Conference in Juba on Monday August 29, 2022, has expressed gratitude to Kush Bank after receiving Five Thousand United States dollars from the Bank to improve the security through putting concrete fence around the Secretariat.
The donation came in response to the request of the Conference on how the bank can help to support the construction of the fence after thieves entered the Secretariat and went away with some properties including some cash few months ago.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Juba, Rt. Rev. Santo Loku Pio says the support came as a result of good relation between the bank and the church.
Bishop Santo says the money will be used to finish fence of the Secretariat compound. He revealed that the donation will also benefit the communities through shops which will be built for the people to rent at low cost.
“One particular thing I would like to thank you for is that it is a local donation, our own bank supporting us to grow. In the past, the Church looked up to foreign organizations and all our people did was to receive donations. Even a small thing as simple as a Rosary, people would like it for free and this is what affected our Church,” he said.
Laku calls on the management of the bank to continue supporting the Church not only in Juba but also in other churches across South Sudan.
The Secretary General of the Sudan and South Sudan Bishop Conference Fr. Peter Suleiman says the bank decided to help the Secretariat after thieves looted the church compound.
In May, Unknown men broke into Catholic Bishops’ Conference offices at night and walked away with computers, money and other essential equipment containing important documents. The thieves stormed doors of the finance office, Caritas executive Director’s office, health office and several offices within the same block and walked away with three thousand, three hundred and seventy-two ($3,372) US Dollars, five hundred and sixty-five thousand, three hundred and fifty-five South Sudanese pounds (5,65, 355) unspecified number of laptops which were stolen.
In fact, the Bishops’ Secretariat compound underwent several cases of burglary some years back before this latest break-in May this year.
On his part, Mr. Ryan O’Grady the Chief Executive Officer of Kush Bank South Sudan says their imitative is to promote development in the country through local partners.
