UGANDA: Bishop Kibira Warns Against Corruption, Violation of Human Rights

Peter Masereka
The Bishop Kasese Diocese Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has warned the public against participating in corruption and violation of human rights as he ordained four deacons to diocesan priesthood and two seminarians as deacons.

The four priests who were ordained in Holy Mass at St. John Paul the 2nd Memorial ground on the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ are Rev. Fr. Mariko Bwambale from Bukangara Parish, Rev. Fr. John Baluku Isebayanda, Kitabu Parish, Rev. Fr. Godwin Kibaba Kasai from Kasanga Parish and Rev. Fr. Norbert Muhindo from Kabuyiri shrine. And the newly ordained deacons are Rev. Dn. Loti Maate from Kyalhumba and Rev. Dn. Modesto Bwambale from Nyakahya Parish.

In his homily while presiding over Holy Mass, Bishop Kibira wondered why people look for earthly joys that force them to get involved in evil actions like corruption, the practice he condemned saying it does not only affect their family generations but also the development of the country.

The prelate told the newly ordained priests and other priests the secrecy of priesthood as being always with Christ. He described a priest as the one who does not pray as a bulb without power.

In a speech shortly after the Holy Mass, Bishop Kibira called for care for parents by the priests and the lay faithful as guided by the Holy Scriptures, saying the Fourth of the Tenth Commandments should as well be taken as important if Christians are to be blessed.
The ordinary asked seminarians in minor and major seminaries to work together and help each other fulfil the dream of serving at the altar of Christ, or else, they will turn into a centre of conflict to fail the Church of God.

Re-sounding the message of Pope Francis in his Encyclical letter about the need to conserve the environment, Bishop Kibira asked Christians in the diocese of Kasese to plant two trees during this coming rainy season as means to mitigate the harsh weather conditions.
Asking for money and other material things from priests is diversionary but supporting and praying for them are what is expected from the lay faithful, Mgrs. Landaus Bwambale, the Vicar General for the Diocese of Kasese warned family members and relative of the newly ordained parish.

On behalf of the ordinands, Fr. Mariko Bwambale Kyabughawakera hailed the Almighty for the gift of priesthood, and asked the Christians to continue praying for them in their new journey in life.

In an interview shortly after the Ordination, the Kasese district woman MP Hon. Florence Kabugho asked parents and guardians to nurture their children in line with the church ministry, encouraging young people to disciplined and focused if they were to have a complete future.

Former Member of Parliament for Kasese Municipality Hon. Robert Centenary also expressed his happiness to the ordained Priests and Deacons for attainment of their vocation of serving God, but urged Christians to pray for their new journey. Mr. Augustine Masereka, father to the newly ordained Fr. Mariko Bwambale said for his son to be a priest, it is a prayer answered by God.

The Bishop later posted Fr. Mariko Bwambale Kyabughawa to Hima parish, Fr. Godwin Kibaba to Nyakahya and Fr. Norbert Muhindo is the Curate for Kakone, as Fr. John Baluku Isebayanda goes to Kasanga Parish.

All the newly ordained priests celebrate their thanks giving masses on Sunday 07th August 2022 in the respective ancestral home.
