UGANDA: Abstain from Consumption of Alcohol, Bishop Kibira Warns Seminarians

The Local ordinary of Uganda’s Kasese Diocese, Rt. Rev. Francis Kibira Kambale has warned seminarians against alcoholism and other acts of indiscipline but rather work to nurture their vocation.

In his speech shortly after presiding over a Holy Mass at Nsenyi Parish where ten seminarians were given ministries of lector and acolyte, Bishop Kibira who asked the lay-faithful to support him pay for the seminarians doing their Theology, asked parents and guardians of seminarians to guide and advise them against the danger of alcoholism, saying he will not tolerate such acts.

The Prelate asked Christians in the Diocese of Kasese to work closely with priests in their respective parishes, urging seminarians to respect and listen to Christians whom he said are the living church of Christ.

In a homily, Bishop Francis Kibira who asked the candidates and priests to listen to and be guided by Christ, urged the faithful to pray for seminarians to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Bishop Kibira encouraged priests, Religious and lay faithful to spend time in prayer, saying a priest who doesn’t pray will not only be astray but leading the flock of God astray.

The diocesan vocations director, Rev. Fr. Joseph Tumusiime said among the seminarians, six of them who are serious candidates will be ordained deacons on 6 August 2022, five will go for pastoral work in parishes while others will be admitted for Theology.

On his part, the head of laity at Nsenyi Parish Ms. Anna Muhindo advised the candidates to put into action what they have vowed before the altar of God, saying as Christians, they expect much from them and will always pray for them against earthly temptations.

Ms. Anna Muhindo brought to notice of the Bishop that pastoral care for the elderly and teaching of Catechism are currently need enhancement.
