UGANDA: Elderly Persons Thankful to Sant’ Egidio Community Support in Lira

The elderly persons in Lira city, Uganda, are grateful to activities of Sant Egidio community Lira being geared towards facilitating their well fare.
They say that the works of Sant Egidio community have rescued them from current state of hunger they are facing, saying it is the reason why they are grateful to Sant Egidio Lira Community.
According to them, Sant Egidio community members are from time to time extending material support in form of relief items including the moral support to them promptly.
Recently, the community distributed relief-items to lepers and the elderly, most of whom old women and men including children who are unable to fend for themselves for survival on matters to do with food and other basic items.
The donation received included maize flour, beans, sugar, soap, matchboxes among other items given to the beneficiaries in a gathering at Apostolic Social center in Lira on Sunday 3rd July 2022.
According to Sant’ Egidio Community Lira-Uganda, the donations were made possible with support from its members and Uganda Martyrs Cathedral chapel Lira.
Ms Janet Akite, assistant coordinator Sant Egidio Community Lira in her remark mentioned that, the donations have helped to restore hope in the lives of the children, lepers and the elderly persons who received them.
Currently as Sant’ Egidio Community, they are making concerted efforts to ensure that they meet the needs and demands of the poor elderly persons through robust resource mobilization although they are in hard economic situation apparently.
Apart from the current engagement, annually Sant’ Egidio Community do prepare Christmas lunch for the poor elderly persons in parishes where they are presently operating as part of their activities.
