The Catholic University of Malawi through its Faculty of Commerce has this week trained rectors and bursars from the major and minor seminaries in the country on resource management for sustainability of their institutions.
Speaking at the official opening of the training, Vice-Chancellor of the University Rev. Fr. Dr. George Buleya said there is need to have practical knowledge on resources management of the seminaries in the country.
Rev.Fr. Buleya advised rectors and bursars from the seminaries to strive on developing seminaries in the country into a self-reliant Catholic Church in Malawi.
“We need to put our institutions first, we must ask ourselves, ‘How can I push my institution further before our personal needs?’, said Fr. Buleya.
One of the participants at the training, the Bursar for St Paul’s Minor Seminary Mlale, Fr. Demetria Banda, said the training has been an eye-opener on how seminaries in Malawi can be self-reliant.
“The training has empowered us with knowledge, the content was very rich. Honestly, we have realized that we were failing to perform because we lacked the knowledge,” said Fr. Banda.
“We have seen several ways on how we can carry out different activities to work so that our seminaries are self-reliant,” he added, appreciating that the training has made them realize that seminaries in Malawi have resources that may help to be self-reliant.
The two-day training on ‘Resource Management for Sustainability of Seminaries in Malawi’ has witnessed the rectors and bursars being taken through Leadership for investment, Budgeting, Management of valuable resources, and Banking & Finance.
Among the seminaries that attended the training includes Nankhunda Minor Seminary in the Diocese of Zomba, St Paul’s Minor Seminary in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Piux XII Minor Seminary in the Archdiocese of Blantyre, St Patrick’s Minor Seminary in the Diocese of Karonga, Mzimu Oyera Minor Seminary in the Diocese of Chikwawa and St Patrick’s Minor Seminary in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.
