The National Pre-Synodal meeting has opened in Lusaka at Kapingila House, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat.

And officially opening the meeting, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) president Archbishop Ignatius Chama said the meeting has been called to experience Synodality as a local Catholic Church in Zambia.

“Firstly, we have come to experience Synodality as a local Catholic Church in Zambia, to walk together and listen to each other hence, fostering our communion and together listen to what the Spirit of the Lord wants to communicate to us with regards to our mission,” he said.

He added that the meeting also aims at gauging the level of achievement in the general objectives of the Synod on Synodality.

The pre-Synodal meeting being held at Kapingila house ends the first phase at local church level of the ongoing 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which is being celebrated under the theme For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.

Some of the specificities and objectives of the Synod on Synodality are recalling how the spirit has guided the Church’s journey through history and today, regenerating relationships among members of Christian communities as well between communities and other social groups including fostering the appreciation and appropriation of the fruits of the recent synodal experiences on the universal, regional, national and local levels.

Others objectives are accrediting the Christian community as a credible subject and reliable partner in paths of social dialogue, healing, reconciliation, inclusion and participation, the reconstruction of democracy, promotion of fraternity and social friendships.

This meeting which ends Saturday 2nd July, 2022 has attracted Bishops, Priests, Religious, Catholic Lay organizations and representatives from the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) and Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ).
