Caritas Zambia working through the Diocese of Mansa is implementing a project to improve livelihoods in the Mantapala Refugee Resettlement camp.

The refugees in Mantapala come from Congo DRC.

These people who have been forced to leave their country due to civil unrest on the banks of lake Mweru in Nchelenge district have located in the Mansa Diocese.

Eugene N’gandu Caritas Zambia Programs Officer-Livelihoods and Climate Change Adaptation Program made this disclosure in an interview.

N’gangu disclosed that the project is focusing on sustainable livelihood and durable solution for young refugees aged 17 to 23 years.

Mr.  N’gangu explained that the 3-year project which has since entered year 2, has three levels of intervention namely; sustainable agriculture, village saving and Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

So far, 150 people have benefited.

The project also supports the justice and peace teams to conduct awareness and sensitisation meetings on justice, peace and care for the environment to address issues of conflicts and climate change.
