MALAWI: Church in Mourns Archbishop Remi Sainte-Marie

On the 18th of June, Catholics in Malawi received sad news of the passing on of the Archbishop Emeritus of Lilongwe Archdiocese Most Reverend Remi Ste-Marie. The Archbishop passed on at 84 years old at Marie-Clara Hospital in Canada.
According to the announcement made by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, Archbishop Ste-Marie died in Canada, his home country where he was receiving medical treatment.
The Church in Malawi held Requiem Mass in honor of the Archbishop on Thursday at Our Lady of Africa Cathedral, Lilongwe Archdiocese. In attendance were the Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia His Excellency Most Rev Archbishop Gianfranco Gallone and all the Catholic bishops in the country.
Born on 11th January 1938 in Quebec in Canada, Archbishop Ste-Marie was ordained priest on 29th June 1963 under the Missionaries of Africa and thereafter served the Church in Malawi in various capacities including as Bishop of the Diocese of Dedza, Coadjutor Bishop of Lilongwe diocese, Bishop of Lilongwe diocese and on 9th February 2011, he was appointed Archbishop of Lilongwe Archdiocese when it was raised to the status of Archdiocese where he served until his retirement in the year 2013.
The late Archbishop Ste Marie once served as member of the University Council of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa CUEA.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, the 25th of June, 2020 in Canada.
