ZAMBIA: Pope Francis Elects New Bishop for Monze Diocese

Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Raphael Mweempwa as the new bishop of the Diocese of Monze.
According to a memo releases by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops this Friday, February 25, 2022, the Bishop-elect was until his appointment serving as formator and lecturer at Saint Dominic’s Major Seminary.
“This serves to inform you all that Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Raphael Mweempwa as the new bishop for the Diocese of Monze. The Bishop-elect, Fr Mweempwa is a Diocesan priest of the Diocese of Monze.,” reads part of the communique.
Born on March 30, 1974, Rev. Fr. Mweempwa was ordained to priesthood on June 29, 2002.
In 2010, he graduated with a licentiate degree in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Italy.
During his priesthood, Rev. Fr Mweempwa has served in different capacities included Parish Priest of St Mary’s Parish in Choma; Saint Mary Queen of Peace in Chirundu, Vocations Director and Diocesan Chancellor.
“In the meantime, the ZCCB chairman Most Rev. Ignatius Chama has conveyed his hearty congratulations to the Bishop-elect,” continues the memo.
