The Pontifical Society for the Holy Childhood has supported the construction of a classroom block at Kabunda Combined School in the Diocese of Mansa.
And the bishop of Mansa Diocese Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga OFM Conv. has called upon all people including children in schools to contribute generously towards the universal solidarity funds.
He said the funds of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) come from contributions or offerings made to the universal solidarity fund, especially on Epiphany Day and on Mission Sunday hence the need to contribute generously as the benefits exceed what is contributed.
Bishop Chisanga revealed that the classroom block was a gift of the Holy Father, Pope Francis to the children of Kabunda through the PMS for the Holy Childhood.
Kabunda combined school was established around 1932 with the aim of assisting young ones get integral education.
The local ordinary also said government should provide necessities to improve standards at the school.
Bishop Chisanga regrets that it is 2 years since he made an appeal to the Zambia Government to assist in providing what was necessary for the institution to operate as a secondary school, but nothing has been materialised to date.
“The government only declared it as a secondary school and nothing has been done for it to function as such,” Bishop Chisanga retorted.
The Bishop also commissioned a water reticulation system for the school that has been realized through the generosity of a family in Baltimore, Maryland, in the USA – Tom Phelan.
