Zambia National Council for the Catholic Laity has donated K10,000 ($560) towards formation of seminarians.
National Chairperson of the Zambia National Council for the Catholic Laity (ZNCL), Mr. Clement Chinama, presented the contribution to the ZCCB Vice President Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde during the Bishops’ Plenary Assembly in Lusaka on Wednesday, January 26.
Meanwhile Mr. Chinama has announced the ZNCL’s rebranding process which has since entered the second year.
He said the rebranding exercise is in order to realign ZNCL with the changing times and in particular to reposition itself as the mandated mouth piece for the Laity in Zambia.
The ZNCL Chairman also informed the Bishops’ Conference that ZNCL took part in promoting citizen participation in the 2021 elections.
“In view of the rebranding process, ZNCCL participated for the first time, in the general election as a supplementary pastoral agent to what Caritas does, to promote citizen participation in the electoral and governance matters, with special focus on women, people living with disabilities, the youth and first-time voters under the Democracy Strengthening Project in Zambia with funding from the UNDP,” Chinama said.
Chinama further said that ZNCL is pleased with the bishops’ prophetic voice in giving direction to the Church in Zambia despite the much intense political divisions caused by Politicians.
He has since assured the bishops of the laity’s support.
“Our being here is not meant to divert your attention my Lords and Your Graces, but to assure you of our support and solidarity in the many challenges that your flock are going through in the society and more so that we can all aspire to belong to good families,” he said.
ZNCCL issued its first Press Statement on 20th June 2020 in support of ZCCB position on various governance issues as a follow-up to the issued statement of 9th June 2020 by the bishops’ conference.
