MALAWI: Catholic University Strives to Maintain Growth and Excellence

The Catholic University of Malawi has disclosed that it will strive to maintain the traditional of excellence that was built over they years in providing quality education in the country and beyond.
Speaking during the 19th Congregation of the University at its main-campus on Saturday 25th September 2021, The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Dr. George Buleya said the University has been challenged with growth that demands good management.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the University is cognizant that if growth is not well managed, it can reverse the gains built over the years since establishment in 2004 by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM).
Fr. Buleya further added that the growth in students’ enrollment, introducing new academic programmes and high growth rate in numbers of students graduating from the University are some of the things that the University strives to maintain in the country.
“Most powerful empires in the world have fallen at the weight of poor managed growth. So, we are committed that the tradition of excellence that has been built over the years does not crumble,” said Fr. Buleya.
He then added that the high students’ enrollment signifies that the University has counted itself a share in education sector in the country and that public has found its academic relevant and competitive.
Concurring with the Vice-Chancellor, Chairman of the University Council, Rt. Rev. Dr. Martin Mtumbuka said the University plans to established constituent colleges in all the regions of the country as away of providing access to quality education to all people in the country.
During the 19th Congregation of the Catholic University of Malawi, 897 students were awarded, Diplomas, Degrees and Master certificates from among the six faculties.
The Congregation was attended by the Malawi Head of State, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera who was the guest of honor.
Chakwera then urged the 897 graduates to bring positive change in Malawi’s development as per the theme of the 19th Congregation of the University: “You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13).
