The Catholic Bishops of Zambia through Secretariat have launched the 2021 season of creation with a call to care more for the environment.
Speaking in his homily during mass to launch a month-long season of creation, Father Gabriel Mapulanga appealed to society to care for the environment and each other.
Father Mapulanga noted that due to overlooking the importance of care for the common home by humankind, there have been disastrous consequences such as droughts and floods due to climate change.
He said disasters such as droughts and floods have caused lives to be lost. The Catholic priest who works for Caritas Zambia further called for reflections and prayers for the earth during this month-long season of creation which is running from 1st September to 4th October,2021.
Focusing on the theme for this this year which is ‘Restoring Our Common Home’, Fr Mapulanga asked whether the earth is home for everyone when others do not have food while others have in abundance.
He said because of the many people that lack food due to the damage caused on environment, there is need to restore the common home.
After the launch of the 2021 season of Creation, the Catholic Secretariat staff planted fruit trees at the presbytery for the priests working at the Catholic secretariat.
